It’s official: online dating’s gone mainstream

Lonely geeks. Desperate women. That used to be the stereotype of people who used the Internet for dating.

But it should come as no surprise that as the Internet has become a bigger and bigger part of our lives, we’re increasingly using it for meeting new people. Sure enough, a study we ran across 6 countries showed that 85% of people aged 18-59 would be up for meeting someone who they had first chatted with online. And two-thirds said that they are friends with, or have themselves dated, someone they met online.

Spain and Brazil led the way, with 80% and 69% of people, respectively, who have met friends or future partners online, while the US rounded out the list at 58%. People got very passionate the last time we drew conclusions about the “coolest” nationalities, so we’ll leave you to decide the reasons behind the country differences!
